Need to find a gorgeous handbag or fabulous pair of shoes, fast? Or maybe you just want to share your newfound fashion accessories with people who care. A pair of New York entrepreneurs has rolled out a snappy business idea that could help you out…

What is Snapette?

Snapette is a location-based fashion app for iPhones, available from iTunes. Similar to Foodspotting – which lets you find food by searching by location, dish or restaurant – Snapette allows fashionistas to search for fashion accessories, mostly shoes or bags, in stores near to them.

How does Snapette work?

Fashion bloggers upload photos of merchandise in stores in their areas. Snapette users can then windowshop to their hearts’ content and, if they feel it’s warranted, pop into the store and buy the items they like.

What’s different about this business idea?

Snapette offers consumers a unique shopping experience. According to Snapette co-founders Jinhee Ahn Kim and Sarah Paiji, women shop differently to men – in general, they say, women are motivated by want, whereas men are motivated by need. So, explain the entrepreneurs, there is a need in the marketplace for a shopping application which lends itself to hours of leisurely and undirected browsing, rather than the direct and focused experience that online retail sites like Amazon offer shoppers.

It may be a cool app, but will this business idea make money? Someone certainly think so – Kim and Paiji recently raised a massive $1.3 million in seed money from angel investors.
