10 ORGANISATIONAL MANAGEMENT

10.1 Human resources

Johan Blignaut will serve as MD and also assist with advertising sales and high-level administrative/financial tasks. Bernard Plaatjies will serve as Editor. The Marketing function will, in the initial stages by shared by Messrs. Blignaut, Plaatjies and the Sales Manager.

The following permanent staff complement is required.

The large pool of skilled people in Greater Johannesburg/Pretoria means that skilled and experienced staff are readily available. Staff will be recruited by personal contacts, word-of mouth, and advertising. Salaries are as follows:

Directors x 2 R35 000 (reduced drawings for year one)
Sales Manager R25 000 + assumed R10 000 commission
Journalist x 1 R18 000
Journalist x 1 R11 000
Layout artist R17 000
Bookkeeper R  9 000 (mornings only)
Receptionist R  6 000
Admin Assistant R  6 000
Total wages & salaries R172 000 (per month)

NB: Fees for freelance writers, photographers or layout artists (R20 000) are not included in this figure.

NB: No cleaning staff will be employed as this requirement is being outsourced

10.2 Management

See 3.1 for Partner profiles.

The only other management-level employee is the Sales Manager. This is a key leadership role and the sales department will ultimately have a staff of four or five people. No appointment has been made as yet.
