Are you a food aficionado who struggles to find high-quality, high-end gourmet foodstuffs? Well then, this business idea caters to you! Called Foodzie, it’s a young start-up taking the world by storm…
What is Foodzie?
Foodzie is an online marketplace for artisan food vendors to connect with foodies. Described as the Etsy of food, Foodzie promotes small producers of gourmet and organic foods.
Students-turned-entrepreneurs Emily Olsen, Rob LaFave and Nik Bauman were regular weekend visitors to local farmers markets. Talking about how small producers market their goods got them thinking that there must be a business opportunity there for the taking. And so Foodzie was born.
Like Etsy, sellers set up virtual storefronts to showcase their goods. While they can post their goods for free, Foodzie takes a 20% cut off all transactions. Unlike Etsy, though, which operates worldwide, Foodzie’s operations are limited to the United States.
How does Foodzie work?
At the heart of this business idea, say Foodzie’s founders, is the company’s mission to help small food producers find new customers and grow their businesses.
Foodzie takes products to the people through curated Foodzie Tasting Boxes. To gain access to new and wonderful foods, though, you’ll have to sign up for a Foodzie subscription on the Foodzie website. This will set you back $29.99 per month. Then, every month you can choose one of three delicious Tasting Box themes. Or, if you prefer surprises, Foodzie will select one for you. For Tasting Club members, shipping is free. Get your box, open and enjoy!
